Be a part of the Remember Me Thursday Awareness Movement. Remember Me Thursday focuses on pet adoption, and at Paws that means cat adoption.

Orphan pets should live in forever homes, not die waiting for them. Get everyone you know on social media to talk about pet adoption on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, so the world can shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues right now.

Remember Me Thursday, Sept. 28. Adopt a shelter pet.

  •  Each year, over 2.7 million orphan shelter pets lose their lives without finding their forever home. Source: Animal 24-7 published by Merritt Clifton

Paws for Reflection learned about Remember Me Thursday while attending the 2017 BlogPaws conference in Myrtle Beach, SC, earlier this year, and we definitely wanted to be sure to promote the cause

At Paws, we encourage you to join the Remember Me Thursday movement by participating in an event, or spreading the word on Social Media using the hashtag, #RememberTheRescue. In 2017, the date is Thursday, September 28, 2017.

What you can do?

If you have the proper space for an event at your shelter, it is ideal.  Having your event where you do your adoptions will familiarize the public and the media with your location.  If you do not have a facility, arrange to have an off-site event.  The Rescue Me Thursday website has a whole host of materials to download, letting you know how to successfully host an event.
If you can’t host an event, you certainly can join by promoting #RescueMeThursday on social media, and letting the world know about your rescue stories. All the cats at the Paws household came from rescue – either a shelter or being adopted before they were taken to a shelter.

The History

Now going into its fifth year, Remember Me Thursday’s goal is to unite individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world to be an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets in need of forever homes.

Millions of adoptable pets will lose their lives in 2017, according to Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center.

We may be from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, but together, we can raise our voices and share one life-saving message and literally save millions of pets on this one day.

At Paws, we learned that in the previous four years of the campaign, 180 countries supported the movement with hundreds of thousands of individuals and more than 700 separate animal welfare organizations around the globe holding candle-lighting ceremonies of their own, spreading the message on social media, visiting the Remember Me Thursday website, or lighting a virtual candle. Celebrities such as Diane Keaton, Carrie Ann Inaba, Katherine Heigl, Pauley Perrette and dozens more have used social media to share the “opt to adopt” message and save orphan pets. In 2016, social media pet stars such as Lil Bub, Cole & Marmalade, and Tuna Melts My Heart also joined the cause.
