An amazing complete and comprehensive list of 2024 cat holidays is just what every cat lover needs. Whether you are looking for ideas to celebrate cats to raise money to help them, or are a writer, or blogger, looking for ideas to write about, a complete list of 2024 holidays (and we have included some dates for 2025) is just what you need.
Of course, Paws has included International Cat Day (August 8) and and National Black Cat Day (October 27). But did you know January 2 is Happy Mew Year for Cats Day? While not a day specifically for cats, National Lazy Day (August 10) is an ideal day to spend snuggling with your cat, and that is certainly an excuse to be lazy.
Thanks to cat lovers around the country and world, we find January 29 celebrating Tuxedo Cat Appreciation Day. September 9 is Tuxie Appreciation Day, and November 29 is known as National Tuxedo Cat Day.
In April, we hail Siamese Cats with National Siamese Cat Day on April 6. There is even a day to celebrate cat ladies (though the new norm is more cool than crazy). This special day falls on April 19.
Ginger Cat Day (for those that love Gingers, they will tell you they are the most velcro cat there is) is celebrated on September 1.
There are fun and bizarre cat holidays – If Cat Had Thumbs Day – March 3, Cat World Dominion Day – June 24, and National Meow Like a Pirate Day – September 19.
If you want to share a glass of wine with your cat, there’s even a day for that (though there’s wine made just for cats with no alcohol). Check out National Drink Wine with Your Cat Week, February 19-25
There are much more serious days like Rainbow Bridge Day, August 29 – a day to remember our beloved felines who have passed on and are waiting to reunite with us on the Rainbow Bridge.
There are even whole months devoted to our cats. February marks a whole host of ways to bring attention to the importance of spaying/neutering your cats. Cats are hardwired to reproduce, which leads to explosive cat overpopulation issues. That is why we find this second month of the year with:
- Feline Fix by Five Awareness Month
- Beat the Heat Month
- National Cat Health Month
- Spay\/Neuter Awareness Month (Humane Society of the United States)
- Responsible Pet Owners Month
- National Prevent a Litter Month
The reason February is chosen to highlight this very important issue is the days are getting longer, and cats start going into heat and mating as the days get longer.
To make the list more inclusive we included National Day Day – August 26 – (for those that may have cats and dogs) and fun days like Mardi Gras, February 13; Cinco De Mayo – May 5, and Halloween – October 31.
Because Paws Cat-O-Sphere for Cat Lovers highlights cat-themed vacations and cat events, we have included several travel/tourism days. There’s no better time to think about planning this year’s vacation than on January 30, which happens to be National Plan for Vacation Day (Last Tuesday of January). This is an ideal time to start plans for visiting the many cat-themed vacation spots around the world. (January 28, 2025 and January 27, 2026)

December 26 – January 1 Kwanzaa (A celebration honoring African heritage in African-American culture) Kwanzaa is a week-long holiday held annually from December 26 to January 1. Fundamentally, it celebrates family, culture, community, and the harvest. The word ‘Kwanzaa’ itself comes from the Kiswahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning ‘first fruits of the harvest’.
December 31, New Year’s Eve
And don’t forget Gotcha Day which is any day you celebrate adopting your precious kitty cat.

Some of these cat holidays may not be included on National Today, or other holiday calendars but we wanted to be as inclusive as possible to raise awareness about cats and the issues that affect them. Others may not be specific to cats, but they can be tailored to fit cat issues and be used for marketing cat-related stories or items. If you know of any additional cat holidays that should be included on this list, please send us a comment, and we will be happy to include them.
