10 reasons to celebrate Mother’s Day with my CATS!

There’s no doubt we miss our human Mom, who passed on over 3 years ago. While there’s hardly a day I don’t think about her awesomeness. I now enjoy Mother’s Day with my Pawsome cats, and here’s 10 reasons why it’s so great.

  1. I’m their human Mom. While all my cats had a different biological Mom, we now share a household with mutual love… well, mostly, when they aren’t having a cat fight.
  2. They are my Paw kids. I couldn’t even imagine life without my fur babies. They keep me centered and give me a purpose in life.
  3. We have a special bond because I spend more time with them than anyone else.
  4. Mother’s Day is about spending time with family, and what better way to spend a day than with those you love the most even if the have four legs and paws.
  5. Cats are just the FUNNIEST, the most ENTERTAINING fun you’ll ever have. Mother’s Day is a time for celebrating Mom, and what better entertainment than cats.
  6. Mother’s Day is a harbinger of Spring and Summer with lazy days ahead, and my cats are EXPERTS at showing me how to be lazy and enjoy the day.
  7. Cats are the most cuddly, loving creatures on earth. Could we ask for anything else on Mother’s Day?
  8. Cats are PURRINGLY PEACEFUL and angelic. I feel like I’m spending a day with angels, and maybe my real Mom, who has passed on, knows the cats have done a pretty darn good job of replacing her. (She was the best).
  9. We can all watch TV together, and we don’t fight over who is going to watch what show. They’re happy to be able to snuggle up to their human.
  10. While they don’t bring gifts, they bring a gift that’s worth SO MUCH MORE – UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!

Make a Pet Toy Using Items in Your Home: Get creative with boxes!

Make a pet toy using items in your home: Get creative with boxes! Cats love to play. They race, pounce, jump, and even slide across the floors. They scale counter-tops and anything that gives them a birds-eye view of the world below. They play with each other and by themselves, and it seems like no matter what, they’re favorite toy, over all others is boxes.

If the boxes are full – no problem! Kitty will want to check them out, or even mark them as his own! If they’re empty, that’s even better! They can become a kitty bed, a tunnel, or whatever your kitty wants them to be!

Make a Pet Toy Using Items in Your Home: Get creative with boxes!

It doesn’t matter how large or small the box is, it provides hours of entertainment. Whether it is just large enough to curl up into for a nap, or if it’s a box big enough for a two-drawer file cabinet, they love it. If there’s more than one, they’ll race from one to the other, or better yet, let one of their feline family members share.

Boxes are a fav as cat toys

Boxes not only entertain the cats, they entertain their humans, as well.

Get creative with boxes and create an obstacle course. Have one upright and another laying down, and you’ve created a tunnel-maze for your cats.

When Paws first adopted my Siamese Linus and his brother Tubby, who has since passed over the Rainbow Bridge, from FIP, they immediately staked out a box that had housed a file cabinet.

Even if the box is full of stuff, cats will stake them out as a new toy.

Sleeping With Cats

Sleeping with cats can be a challenge for all of our cat lovers. Most prefer not to banish our felines from the bedroom, and invite them to share our beds. Needless to say, by doing so, we have a number of humorous stories to share.

While we don’t have a selfie of Linus sleeping with his human (we’re going to work on that for a later post), we are sharing some selfies of this handsome blue-eyed boy as we participate in this Sunday Selfie Blog Hop, kindly sponsored by Kitty Blue’s The Cat on My Head. We invite you to check out all the blogs of all these pawsome participants.

We’re also sharing an infographic provided by Freya at MattressOnline, that can serve as a guide for sleeping with your cat.

My Siamese Linus makes sure he’s at the door when it’s time for his human to go to bed, and even if he is getting bribed with a favorite treat, he runs to the door to make sure he’s not in prime position to share his human’s bed. It takes him a bit to settle down, and he likes to walk over the top of my head, pulling my hair. He then tries to find a favorite side on which he can lay. If his human is not positioned just right, he’ll find an arm to curl up in.

Hacking hairballs on National Hairball Day

Hairballs can be disgusting, especially, if you’ve ever accidentally stepped on one with your bare feet. However, if you have cats, hairballs are something you just have to live with, like it or not.

Hacking hairballs on National Hairball Day

Hairballs may be more common in long-haired cats like Little Yellow.

The Paws household is no exception. With five felines, we have daily encounters with hairballs, not always from the same cat.

We had heard about National Hairball Day being observed the last Friday of every April, and we were curious as to what would make people want to celebrate the coughing, hacking, and yacking of hairballs?

It turns out National Hairball Day is not a humorous parody about cat’s yacking up a hairball, it is an educational tool to make people take another look at proper grooming.

Cats are meticulous groomers

Cats are meticulous groomers. They spend up to half of their waking hours making sure their coat is pristine. This could be related to their hardwired survival skills in the wild. They learn this at an early age, as newborn kittens get a mega dose of grooming by their Mommy Cat. Daily grooming become paramount to cats, and is more important than everything except food, and well of course, sleep.

Consequently a lot of fur is ingested, and sooner or later, your cat is likely to hack up a hairball.
